Is an RX 470 8GB Still Suitable for Casual Gaming?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 5500 CPU and I'm considering getting an RX 470 8GB. I want to play some lighter games, mostly at 1080p, aiming for around 60fps with medium to low settings. My budget is really tight, so I'm questioning whether this purchase makes sense. I'm particularly interested in horror titles like Poppy Playtime and Resident Evil, as well as some occasional AAA games, again with low settings aimed at maintaining roughly 60fps. Is this GPU still worth it for my needs?

Honestly, I'd say no—it probably won’t cut it for modern games at 1080p, not even on low settings. You'll likely struggle to maintain 60fps, especially with more demanding games.

If you can get it cheap, like under $50, it could be an okay choice, but I'd suggest looking at the GTX 1660 Super or even an RX 580 at a similar price point for more solid performance at 1080p.

I had an RX 570 4GB before upgrading, and trust me, it was a tough experience trying to hit stable 60fps on many new titles. The RX 470 is even less capable. I recently switched to a 9060xt 16GB, and I can hit 120-200fps on 1080p with max settings which has been amazing for gameplay.

The RX 470 is decent for light gaming, but I wouldn't count on it for newer titles, especially the latest Resident Evil games. If you’re seeing a low price, it might serve you well, but keep in mind that it tends to underperform on more graphics-demanding games. Have you checked the prices on it? You might want to consider an RX 580 8GB instead—it generally has better performance for about the same price.
