I'm curious if anyone here is using FortiSwitches for connecting servers using 10Gb. Specifically, are you opting for Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables or going with fiber optics?

We’re using 40Gb DACs that break out to 4×10Gb ports, and it works really well as long as you have the right firmware. We haven’t had any issues so far!

I don't use them myself, but I'll take DAC over fiber if the distance is manageable. For runs that go across a room, I definitely switch to fiber. In my setup, having a couple of top-of-rack switches and blades with 100G DACs is just awesome.

While I don’t have FortiSwitches, the decision between DAC and fiber often comes down to distance and other factors. DAC is typically good up to about 10 meters, but you should also consider cable flexibility. Generally, we use single-mode fiber for new setups, and it’s been reliable for years.

We’ve faced issues with DAC compatibility, especially with Aruba products. That’s something to keep in mind.
