Is buying a used 4090 for $1800 worth it?

A coworker is selling their MSI Suprim X 4090, which has been used for gaming and machine learning for a year, for $1800. On eBay, these cards are typically listed for around $2300. I currently own a 4080 Super, which I'm considering giving to my sister as a gift. The reason I'm looking to upgrade is that I struggle to run Cyberpunk in VR. Do you think this is a good deal? I'd prefer not to spend over $3200 on a 5090.

Buying from a coworker has its perks! You know it works and can trust it more than an online purchase. Plus, if it’s valued at over 2.3k, you can always resell it later without much loss.

If you're struggling with VR performance, I'd suggest rethinking that. Are you trying to play it maxed out? Just turn off path tracing and use DLSS to improve performance!

It really depends on what you need. If you can swing the cost and need the upgrade, go for it. But if you don’t feel the need, hanging back might be wise until prices drop more.
