Is Choosing AM4 for My PC Build a Smart Move?

I'm considering building a new PC but I'm a bit worried about the RAM prices skyrocketing due to the current market situation. DDR5 is quite expensive, forcing my budget to take a hit. AM4 seems like a better option for me since it allows for a more balanced build, letting me afford a decent GPU and CPU without spending a fortune on RAM. I'm curious if there is a noticeable difference in performance between AM4 and AM5. Can I expect similar frame rates in benchmarks on AM5 if I go with an AM4 setup?

Honestly, it depends on what you're looking to get out of your build. AM4 is still a solid choice, especially with good CPUs like the Ryzen 5800X or the 5700X, which should easily give you 100+ FPS in most games. If you're aiming for over 200 FPS in some titles, though, consider an AM5 setup with something like a 7600X3D. But for budget builds, AM4 is hard to beat right now!

I get where you’re coming from! I was in a similar spot, and I picked up a 5700 at a great price. It's been performing well without breaking the bank. Integrated graphics were a concern at first, but I haven’t had issues. Would love to hear if you end up going that route!

What GPU are you pairing with your 5600? I'm looking to play at 1440p and want to know what works well!

If your setup runs all your games well, that's what truly matters. I have a 5800XT and it plays everything I throw at it at over 150 FPS at 1440p. I didn't always have the latest components either; I upgrade when I start experiencing issues, which keeps costs in check. Just build something that meets your gaming needs for now, and you can always upgrade later!

Got any tips for optimizing FPS? I've got a 5700X3D and a 6750XT and I'm struggling to break above 110 FPS in some games.

We have the same setup! My build works great for everything, but some newer titles still give my components a run for their money.

It really comes down to your GPU and CPU combo. Many gamers are having fun with the 5600X and 5800XT paired with solid GPUs. If you're leaning towards AM4, it's a smart decision right now, given DDR5's inflated prices. Just steer clear of the lower-tier CPUs to maximize performance. If you have a good AM4 board, it's still very capable!

Thanks for confirming! I'm aiming for a balanced budget build, so this helps!

I plan to upgrade to a 9070XT soon, glad to see others are doing the same!

If you ask me, building with AM4 makes a lot of sense right now since costs are manageable. It’s more about the performance you're getting for your budget. Sure, AM5 has some future-proofing benefits, but if you gather low-cost parts right now, you'll be able to enjoy your new PC without overspending on RAM. You might also want to consider the upgrade paths available when choosing your components down the road.

Absolutely! I did the same and it makes such a difference when you can upgrade without starting from scratch.

True that! I'll likely wait to upgrade to AM5 until prices stabilize.
