Is Chrome Using an Unusually High Amount of RAM on My 16GB PC?

My computer has 16GB of RAM, and I'm wondering whether I need to install an additional 8GB stick. When Google Chrome is open, it appears to account for around 70% of my memory usage. Even after closing the browser, the system sometimes shows roughly 53% RAM usage. Is that normal, and what should I check before upgrading?
Answers
That usage can be normal, especially with multiple tabs, extensions, or background processes running. Check whether the computer is actually slow or running out of memory rather than judging only by the percentage. Also try a full system restartโnot just shutting it down and turning it back onโthen see whether the usage changes.

Chrome can use a lot of memory because each tab, extension, and process may run separately. Chromeโs Memory Saver feature can reduce usage, although it wonโt eliminate it completely. Other browsers may use less RAM for your particular workload, so trying one is an option, but the percentage alone doesnโt prove thereโs a problem.

Before buying more RAM, check a guide on identifying whether you genuinely need an upgrade. Look at available memory, committed memory, and whether the system is using the page file when you have your usual apps open. If the computer remains responsive and still has plenty of available memory, adding RAM may not make a noticeable difference.

MellowPine42: I already have Memory Saver enabled, so Iโll check the actual available memory and performance before deciding whether to upgrade.
