AMD lists official memory support for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D as up to DDR5-5600, but many memory kits are rated for DDR5-6000. Does buying a 6000 MT/s kit provide a worthwhile performance improvement, or would DDR5-5600 be a better value so the savings can go toward a stronger graphics card?

For an X3D processor, the real-world difference between DDR5-5600 and DDR5-6000 is usually very small because the large 3D V-Cache reduces how often the CPU needs to access system memory. If DDR5-6000 costs only a little more, choose a low-latency CL30 kit. Otherwise, DDR5-5600 is perfectly reasonable and putting the money toward a better graphics card will likely make a bigger difference.
DDR5-6000 isn't useless. The 5600 figure is the speed AMD officially guarantees under standard JEDEC settings, while DDR5-6000 generally runs by enabling EXPO in the BIOS. A 6000 MT/s CL30 kit is a common choice for AM5 and usually works well, though stability can vary slightly between systems.
So DDR5-5600 is the safer choice, but 6000 is still fine if the kit is reasonably priced?
The important part is not just the advertised speed but also latency, capacity, and whether the kit is compatible with your motherboard. DDR5-6000 with EXPO is a popular balance for AM5, but DDR5-5600 will not meaningfully hold back a 9950X3D in most gaming situations. If 6000 causes instability or requires manual troubleshooting, using 5600 is completely fine.

That makes sense. If the price gap is noticeable, I’ll probably save the money for the graphics card.
