I'm fairly new to laptop hardware, and my ASUS TUF F15 has become a major source of worry. It's a 2023 model with an Intel i5-12500H and RTX 3050. During normal gaming, temperatures can climb past 95°C almost immediately, followed by heavy thermal throttling. The motherboard has also failed and been repaired twice within two years. The repair shop cleaned the laptop and reapplied thermal paste during the most recent repair, but I've been afraid to launch any games since getting it back. For now, I only use it for movies and basic tasks. Is it reasonably safe to game on a motherboard that has already been repaired twice, or is another failure likely? Should I try software changes such as limiting Turbo Boost, or is replacing the motherboard the better option?

If the board has already failed twice, replacing it with another repaired board may not solve the underlying issue. Ask the repair shop what specifically caused each failure and whether they tested the cooling and power-delivery components. If they can’t identify the cause or provide confidence in the repair, spending more money on a replacement motherboard may not be worthwhile compared with replacing the laptop. Gaming itself isn’t guaranteed to destroy the board, but continuing to use it while it overheats is not a good idea.
A motherboard repair doesn’t automatically mean the laptop will fail again, but temperatures over 95°C and immediate throttling suggest the cooling system or power settings still need attention. Since the machine was already cleaned and repasted, try monitoring temperatures while gaming, limiting CPU boost, and reducing the game’s performance settings or frame rate. If temperatures remain excessive, have a qualified technician check the fans, heatsink contact, heat pipes, and power circuitry rather than assuming the repaired board is the only problem.
The shop did the cleaning and repasting during the last repair, but I haven’t tested any games since then. I may try limiting Turbo Boost and monitoring temperatures carefully before deciding what to do next.
