My power supply has modular 8-pin ports, but the SATA power cable I have uses a 6-pin connector on the PSU side. The cable came from a different power supply, and I can't find the original SATA cables for my current unit. Can I safely use a 6-pin-to-8-pin adapter, or buy a new SATA cable with an 8-pin PSU-side connector? I know modular PSU cables can use different pinouts, so I want to avoid damaging my drives or creating a fire hazard. Do I need to replace the entire power supply?

Do not use that 6-pin cable with this power supply. Modular PSU connectors are not standardized, even when they look identical, so a cable from another unit can put voltage on the wrong pins and destroy drives or other hardware. An adapter does not make an incompatible pinout safe.
You can buy a replacement SATA cable only if it is specifically confirmed to match the exact make and model of your PSU. Don’t rely on the connector shape or on a generic listing that simply says it is for an 8-pin port. If the correct cable cannot be verified, replacing the PSU is the safer option.
Never mix modular PSU cables between different power supplies. Even cables from the same brand may use different wiring across models. Stop using the mismatched cable and either obtain the manufacturer-approved cable for this exact PSU or replace the unit.

The 6-pin cable is from my old PSU, not the current one, and I can’t locate the original SATA cables.
