I recently swapped my RX 9070XT for an RTX 4080 Super with a friend, but I overlooked that my setup has a PCIe Gen 5 riser cable. I've set it to Gen 4 in the BIOS. Is it safe to use this setup? Some people online say using a Gen 5 cable for a Gen 4 configuration might actually be beneficial, but I'm also getting PCIe express errors shown in HWinfo64. Could those be related to the cable? What do you think?

You should be fine using a Gen 5 riser cable with your Gen 4 GPU. It’s built to be backwards compatible, so it should work without issues.
It should technically be backwards compatible, running at slower speeds. As for it running better, I’m not so sure. Modern GPUs don’t really max out the PCIe bandwidth. If you're getting errors, could you share a screenshot?

Yes, it should work without any problems. It might downgrade to the speed of Gen 4, but that’s totally okay.
Under PCIe Express errors, the "recovery count" keeps increasing over time, while other error counts are at 0.
