I just moved into an apartment where the internet is shared among the six units. The landlord provides the WiFi password when you move in. How safe is it to use this shared WiFi? Should I be worried about security or privacy?

To stay secure, make sure you have your firewall enabled and treat the shared WiFi like a public network. That way, you reduce the risk of anyone accessing your devices directly.

I’d recommend being careful, especially if you keep anything valuable on your devices. Make sure your network is properly secured, and using a VPN would be a good idea to protect your information.

If you really need to use that WiFi, consider getting a travel router to create your own more secure network. That way, you can surf without worrying too much about your neighbors accessing your devices.

Using a shared network isn't much different from using WiFi at a café. Just stick to HTTPS connections for sensitive stuff—it’s usually secure enough. If you’re not streaming sensitive info, you should be fine!

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much. The chance that your neighbors are hackers is pretty slim. Just avoid exposing your computer or other devices on the network and consider getting your own WiFi setup later for convenience.
