I recently upgraded to an RTX 5080, but I'm running into a serious bottleneck because of my old CPU and motherboard from 2018. With my current specs, I'm wondering if a full rebuild is necessary. If I go for a Z790 motherboard, that means I'll also have to upgrade to an i9-14900K and DDR5 RAM, right? I've heard there are some DDR4 Z790 boards, but they seem hard to find. Here's what I'm working with:
**CPU**: Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
**CPU Cooler**: Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L RGB 66.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
**Motherboard**: MSI Z370-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
**Memory**: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL15 Memory
**Storage**: Samsung 860 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
**Video Card**: PNY OC GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB Video Card
**Case**: Cougar MX330 ATX Mid Tower Case
**Power Supply**: Corsair RM1000x 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

You could find some decent DDR4 LGA 1700 motherboards, like B760 models. They’re definitely out there! But honestly, if you're considering upgrading, you might want to look at something like the Ryzen 7800X3D or the 9800X3D instead.

If I went the 9800X3D route, would I need to switch to DDR5?
