Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on whether I should upgrade my CPU or stick with my current one. I primarily play CS2 on a 1080p 144Hz monitor, and I'm getting frame rates between 140-200, but they feel pretty unstable. Sometimes, I even drop below 144 FPS during intense moments in the game.
My current setup is an OMEN prebuilt that I got around 4-5 years ago, which includes a Ryzen 7 5700G, an RTX 3070 Ti, and 16GB of RAM on a B550 motherboard (I think). Since CS2 is quite CPU-intensive, I'm considering not only a CPU upgrade but also possibly a better monitor if I go that route. Ideally, I'd like smoother gameplay with at least stable 200-300 FPS.
I know that CS2 has its optimization issues, so I'm curious about the best CPU upgrades compatible with my system. I read that the x3d CPUs are popular right now, but they're either sold out or super pricey in the second-hand market. I've also seen that the 5800X/XT and 5900XT are good options. What do you think? And which one offers the best price/performance balance? For reference, I can get the 5800X for €204, the 5800XT for €219, and the 5900XT for €309. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

The 5700G has less cache compared to its x variant siblings, so an upgrade will pay off. If you're contemplating between the 5900XT and the 5800XT, the difference in performance is mainly in core count and clock speed. The 5900XT has more cores and performs better in multi-threaded tasks. If gaming is your focus, both are solid choices, but the 5800XT might give you better value for now.
Upgrading from the 5700G is definitely worth it! The 5700G is essentially a mobile chip, which means you’ll see good gains with any of the Ryzen options like the 5600, 5800X, or 5900XT. While the performance increase won’t be night and day, it should help stabilize those frame rates. Just remember, resale value of your 5700G can offset some of the upgrade cost!
That's helpful! But how do the 5800X and 5800XT compare in terms of performance? Is that slight price difference justified?

Thanks for explaining! I can get the 5900XT for €310 or the 5800XT for €219. Any insights into which offers better bang for the buck?
