Is it Worth Downgrading My RAM for Better Latency?

Hey everyone! I'm reaching out for your advice. I'm currently building my PC and I've been buying parts from a local store that has been running some great deals. I picked up an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D along with some other components, including my RAM, which is currently 32GB at CL40. I've been reading about how RAM latency affects performance, especially with my CPU setup.
Now I'm wondering if I should sell my 32GB RAM and downgrade to 16GB with better latency (CL30 at 6000MHz). Would the performance gain be significant enough to justify chopping my RAM in half? I'm into games like Dayz, Stalker 2, and others, so I'd love to know if the latency differences will be noticeable. Thanks for your thoughts!

Honestly, I'd stick with your 32GB at CL40 instead of going down to 16GB at CL30. The performance difference isn't really enough to make up for losing that much RAM. Plus, with 32GB, you won't hit a memory bottleneck as quickly, especially with the games you’re planning to play.

Seriously, downgrading from 32GB to 16GB to gain CL30 speed isn't a good idea. It's like going from six lanes of traffic to two just for a slight speed boost. You’ll notice a difference in games, trust me.

I think you might have misunderstood how RAM latency works with your CPU. The large cache on your X3D means that having faster RAM isn't as crucial as you might think. Going from 32GB to 16GB could hurt your performance in the long run, especially as new games come out. I'd recommend sticking with your current setup.

Aiming for 16GB at CL30 instead of 32GB at CL40 doesn't make much sense. The increase in bandwidth isn't enough to outweigh the loss of capacity. Keep your current RAM!
