Hey everyone! I'm not a programming pro, but I've dabbled a bit with .NET Core and React, as well as worked on some machine learning models for school. Recently, I watched a PewDiePie video about Linux laptops and I'm considering buying one with a U-series CPU and OLED screen to experiment with a Linux distro. My goal is to use it for hobby projects in data science—I enjoy participating in Kaggle competitions, but I'm still an amateur. I'd love to customize my OS layout as much as possible. So, what do you think? Would this be more hassle than it's worth? What distro would you recommend? Also, what cool things can I do with a Linux laptop?

Before you make a purchase, why not test out Linux on a virtual machine? It's a low-risk way to see if it resonates with you. If it does, then go for dedicated hardware later!
If you're really keen on learning, install Linux as your main OS. You’re bound to run into issues that will teach you troubleshooting skills—like fixing a broken package or something you accidentally removed. It's an educational experience!
Definitely try Linux out! If you’re into AI or server projects, you’ll find it really handy. By the way, I’ve had an amazing experience with my ThinkPad running Fedora for years—you might want to look into that as well!
If you're looking for hardware, don’t overspend! Raspberry Pis are a fun, cheap way to tinker with Linux. For a low-cost PC, consider a mini PC with an N100 or N150 chip instead of going the Linux laptop route.
You don’t actually need a new machine for Linux. Consider dual booting on your current laptop or using a virtual machine. Linux Mint or Fedora are great options for a user-friendly experience!
