I'm looking to upgrade my GPU since my current setup is starting to struggle. Here are my specs: Ryzen 9 9900x, Lexar 64GB DDR5 6000MHz, NZXT Kraken AIO, Gigabyte RTX 3060 OC 12GB, MSI Pro X870-E, and a couple of SSDs. While my rig has served me well for development, gaming, and editing, I'm finding that my GPU is falling behind, especially with my ultrawide monitor. My neighbor is offering to sell me his RTX 3090 for $500. I'm torn between buying the 3090, which has 24GB of VRAM and would help with gaming and local LLMs, or saving up for something newer. What do you think? How long do you think the 3090 will last?

I’ve got a 3090 in my rig and it handles everything great, even the latest titles. Just be aware it runs hot, so if your case isn't well-vented, you might want to consider upgrades down the line!

Yeah, I’m worried about thermals too! My case is mid-sized, so I might need to look into GPU risers for better airflow.

Honestly, for that price, absolutely grab it! You might not see such a good deal anytime soon!

For 2K gaming, the 3090 is still a beast, especially at that price. If you're not pushing 4K at max settings, you should be more than fine. Just take a few minutes to optimize your settings for the best balance between visuals and performance and you’ll be good to go!

Totally agree! A few tweaks can really enhance your experience without too much hassle.

$500 for a 3090 is a steal! I’d say go for it, you won’t regret it!

If you sell the 3090 later, you might make a decent profit, but if you're mainly gaming now, sticking to the 3090 makes the most sense. Just remember, newer models like the RTX 5070 are on the horizon, but the 3090 still holds its own!

I think I'll stick with the 3090 for now since I don’t need a new PSU right away. Plus, I've got a few games lined up already!
