I'm currently using an Intel i5 9600K with a 6600 XT and 32GB of RAM. I'm considering upgrading my processor to either a Ryzen 5500 or 5600. Would this be a smart move?

Honestly, I wouldn't stress over the upgrade right now. The 9600K and 6600 XT already pair pretty well. I'd suggest waiting until you get a better GPU, then look into a more powerful Intel CPU like the 13/14600K with a B760 DDR4 motherboard.

But why Intel? AMD tends to have more versatile options and better overall performance. I'd only choose Intel if the price is right.

Not really a fan of the 5500, but the Ryzen 5 5600 is a great upgrade! It definitely provides a solid performance increase. If you're looking to get a better GPU in the future, going with the 5600 would be the best route.
