Is it worth upgrading from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 5 5600x?

Hey everyone! I've been considering upgrading my CPU for some time now. Currently, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 paired with a 3060 Ti, and after trying to play Alan Wake 2 the other night, I realized I might need a boost. There's a used Ryzen 5 5600x available nearby for $100, and I'm really interested. I know the x3d series is overpriced, and my goal is to get a solid upgrade that'll last me until I can go for AM6 in 2028. I game on a 1440p ultrawide monitor. What do you all think? Thanks for your input!

While the Ryzen 3600 still has decent value, if you're seeing a good deal on the 5700x for $100, that might be worth considering. Just remember that you're looking for something to bridge the gap until 2028. Have you checked out the prices for 5800x too? Itโ€™s a solid performer at around $155.

TechieNerd42: I was looking at the options just now, it's likely I might grab the 5700x then. Thanks for the suggestion! Just want something reliable until I can do a more comprehensive upgrade.

MachineWhisperer33: Good call! The 5700x will give you a noticeable boost without breaking the bank. Plus, it should hold you over just fine for the next few years.

1440p ultrawide on a 3060 Ti? That's interesting! I upgraded to a 1440p ultrawide last Christmas too, and while I originally played at 1080p with a 240Hz monitor, I found most of my games from before 2021 run just fine. Cyberpunk wasnโ€™t too bad either, especially with DLSSโ€”it really improves performance! What settings do you typically use?

GameChanger88: I mostly play older titles, so no major issues for me. Also, DLSS helps a lot when I want to crank the graphics a bit without the framerate tanking.

PixelWarrior99: I had a similar setup with a 3440x1440p monitor on a 4060, and I was surprised at how well games ran, even newer AAA titles like Battlefield 6. I think you might be just fine on your setup as long as you manage the settings right!
