Is My 650W Power Supply Enough for My New 4070?

I recently purchased an RTX 4070, and after consulting with some folks about it, I felt confident in my choice. However, a friend is now telling me I might have made a mistake because my current power supply is a 650W Gold from a brand I'm unfamiliar with (since it came with my prebuilt system). Here are my specs: I'm running a 3060, an Intel i5 12400F, 48GB of RAM at 3200 MHz, and two NVMe SSDs. Am I in trouble with this setup, or should I be fine? I'm not in a position to replace my PSU right now.

NVIDIA recommends a minimum of 650W for the 4070 because it can pull up to 250W when overclocked. Your 12400F tops out at around 117W, so 650W should be perfectly fine for your setup.

Realistically, a 650W PSU should be fine. The i5 pulls about 100W max, and the 4070 is around 200W. The recommendations for 750W are usually to cover potential spikes and give some headroom.

You should be okay! Just to be safe, consider undervolting your CPU and running in green mode to see actual power draw. Thatโ€™ll give you some extra breathing room.

Throw your parts into PCPartPicker to check the power usage. From what I've seen, your setup should be pulling around 352W. As long as there's not anything significantly power-hungry in your rig, your 650W PSU should be more than sufficient.

I ran a 4070 alongside the same CPU and two NVMe SSDs on a 600W PSU without issues. Youโ€™ll have zero problems with your current setup!
