My setup is a little unconventional: about six years ago I bought a Vizio TV to use as a monitor, and since I'm happy playing at 60 FPS, I've never really needed more. The system has an MSI Z390 motherboard, an Intel i9-9900K, an RTX 4080 Super, and 32 GB of RAM. I was surprised to learn that the 9900K is considered pretty old now, since it felt like a top-tier processor when I bought it. I still play newer AAA games such as Forza Horizon 6 and Halo without any noticeable problems. If everything runs well for my needs, is there any real reason to upgrade, or should I keep using this build until I run into a limitation?

The 9900K is old compared with modern CPUs, but that doesn’t automatically make it unusable. It may become a limitation in very CPU-heavy games or if you move to high-refresh 1080p gaming, but paired with a 4080 Super for 4K or 60 FPS gaming, it’s still a reasonable setup.
If you’re playing at 4K on a 60 Hz TV, the 9900K probably isn’t holding the 4080 Super back in any meaningful way. At that resolution and frame rate, your current system should remain perfectly usable for quite a while. Upgrade only if you actually start noticing performance problems or want higher refresh rates.
There’s no point upgrading just because newer hardware exists. If your games run smoothly and you’re satisfied with 60 FPS, keep the money. A platform upgrade could improve CPU performance, but it would also mean replacing the motherboard and processor, and possibly dealing with current memory costs.
I’d look at upgrading the display before replacing the computer. A higher-refresh-rate monitor or a newer TV would make a bigger difference to your experience than swapping out a CPU that is still handling your games well.
