Is My Processor Holding Back My Gaming Performance?

I'm building a gaming rig and want to know if my processor is a bottleneck. Here are my specs: I have an NVIDIA 5090 Founders Edition GPU, a Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX motherboard, 32GB of CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 6400 RAM (2 x 16GB), and an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X processor. I'm mainly using this system for gaming and might dabble in some AI work later. Am I likely to experience reduced performance because of the CPU?

Some folks say a 5090 pairs best with a 9800X3D for top performance. It mainly depends on the games you playโ€”if theyโ€™re CPU-intensive, you might want to consider an upgrade.

It really depends on the games or apps youโ€™re running, and also what settings you're using. A good way to check is to look at your GPU usage percentage while playing. If itโ€™s hitting close to 100%, that usually means the GPU is the performance limit. But if it's significantly lower, then your CPU might be holding things back.

For your setup, the 5090 is a powerful GPU. You might not feel much bottlenecking at 4K resolution. But for 1440p, especially if youโ€™re pushing high frame rates, your CPU can become the limiting factor depending on the game.
