I recently upgraded my graphics card from a 3070 to a 9070XT, but I'm running into some performance issues while gaming, particularly with Space Marine 2. Despite having high settings at 1440p, I'm only getting about 60 fps with my Ryzen 7 3800X and my GPU utilization is around 70-80%. I'm considering CPU upgrades, but the only viable options appear to be the 5700X3D and 5800X3D, both of which are quite pricey on the used market. Upgrading to an AM5 CPU is out of my budget due to high RAM prices as well. I'm also thinking about buying a 4K monitor—would that help reduce the bottleneck or just shift it? Are there any other CPU upgrades I should consider that won't bottleneck the 9070XT?

Switching to 4K does put more load on your GPU, but it doesn't actually solve the CPU bottleneck. You'll still see the same limitations with your Ryzen 7. So, if you do decide to go 4K, just keep in mind that higher resolution doesn't inherently enhance your CPU performance. But it could lead to smoother frame times if the GPU is fully utilized!
Make sure to also check the GPU clocks, not just utilization, to see if you're hitting any limits there. That's key information for troubleshooting bottlenecks.
Honestly, upgrading to a 4K setup might be overkill unless you’re ready to also invest in a high-end GPU. If you’re on a budget, you might want to stick to 1440p and choose a solid CPU upgrade like the 5600X or 5800XT instead.
I just went from a 3600 to a 5700X paired with a 9070XT and rolled out a 4K monitor. It's been great! Definitely worth the investment if you have the budget.
I did a similar upgrade path and saw great improvements. The 5800XT is a fantastic value and really shines with most games. Unless you’re after the absolute best right now, the X3D might not be necessary for just casual gaming.
