I recently discovered something odd on my dad's USB that has files on it. When he opened the USB, a shortcut appeared along with a Windows-based script host prompting to make changes to the device. After clicking 'yes', the files became visible. Despite it being a few days since then without any obvious signs of trouble, I'm unsure if the PC might be infected with a virus. Can anyone help clarify if this is a serious issue and advise on what steps to take for potential fixes?

I suggest running an offline scan with Windows Defender just to be safe. While it's possible it could be harmful, scripts like that were more common years ago and most vulnerabilities have been patched. If the scan turns up clean, you’re probably in the clear.
