Is Shopify’s documentation especially difficult for headless SvelteKit projects?

I'm building a personal website for a friend using SvelteKit, and I want to integrate his Shopify store into it. I've never worked with Shopify before, so I chose a headless setup and started looking into the Storefront API. The onboarding experience has been much harder than expected. I've had to jump through a huge number of articles just to understand which APIs and concepts I need, and most of the official examples seem focused on Shopify's preferred framework, Hydrogen, Webflow, or web components. I haven't found many practical examples for common frameworks like SvelteKit. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but the documentation and tutorial landscape feel unnecessarily confusing for such a widely used platform. Has anyone else had this experience, or found a straightforward way to approach a headless Shopify integration?

The official guides are much easier to follow if you already know exactly what you’re looking for. Otherwise, the material feels scattered and tends to steer you toward Shopify’s own tooling instead of showing a basic integration pattern for other frameworks.

The built-in AI assistant can be useful for locating the right API fields or explaining how Shopify’s resources fit together. It doesn’t replace clear documentation, but it can save some time when you’re stuck on terminology or a GraphQL query.

The docs often assume you already understand Shopify’s object model, which means beginners end up reverse-engineering the vocabulary first. For a headless project, I’d focus on the Storefront API and use its GraphQL explorer to build and test queries. Once a query works there, calling it from SvelteKit is usually fairly straightforward.

You’re definitely not alone. I’ve worked with Shopify themes for years and still occasionally get lost in the documentation when I need to refresh my knowledge. The API docs are especially inconsistent, and the lack of simple, framework-neutral examples makes the learning curve steeper than it needs to be.

MellowPine47: That’s exactly the problem for me—I don’t know the Shopify terminology or object model yet, so I’m spending more time figuring out what to search for than actually building the integration.
