Is Steam OS a Solid Option for Building a Gaming PC?

I'm building my first gaming PC and I've heard that Steam OS is designed to be optimized for gaming. Since I already have a laptop for other tasks, I'm wondering if I should go with Steam OS instead of Windows. I'm also looking for any tutorials on how to install it, as I'm a total newbie to this.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Steam OS for your gaming PC. It tends to work best only with Steam's own hardware, and compatibility with Intel and Nvidia components is pretty sketchy. If you're aiming for a gaming-focused OS, I'd say stick with Windows 11, which is quite versatile, or look into some Linux distributions—just keep in mind that many multiplayer games and mods might not work on Linux.

If you play games that utilize anti-cheat software, it’s best to avoid any Linux OS, including Steam OS. Many games have issues running on Linux due to anti-cheat systems not being fully supported. There are some that work fine, but you'll definitely run into problems with some others.
