Is the $100 upgrade from a 5600X3D bundle to AM5 worth it?

I'm upgrading my girlfriend's PC from an i5-7500 and am comparing two Micro Center bundles. One includes a Ryzen 5 5600X3D, motherboard, and 16GB (2x8GB) of DDR4 for $320. The other includes a Ryzen 5 7600X, motherboard, and 16GB (1x16GB) of DDR5 for $420. Is the extra $100 worthwhile for the newer AM5 platform, DDR5, and future upgrade options, or would the 5600X3D bundle offer better value?

The 5600X3D is still an excellent gaming option, particularly at 1440p, and the bundle already has properly matched dual-channel memory. If the system will stay as-is for a long time, saving the $100 and putting it toward the GPU could provide more noticeable results.

I would lean toward the 7600X bundle for a new build. AM5 gives you room to install a newer processor several years from now, while the 5600X3D is effectively the end of the AM4 upgrade path. Just budget for a second DDR5 stick rather than running 16GB in single-channel mode.

The AM5 bundle is probably worth the extra $100 if you plan to keep the system for several years. The 7600X is on a newer platform with a better upgrade path, so a future CPU upgrade could extend the life of the computer without replacing the motherboard and memory.

It also depends on what she will use the PC for. For gaming, the 5600X3D is still a very capable chip and may be the better immediate value, especially if the savings can be used for 32GB of RAM or a stronger graphics card. The 7600X makes more sense if future CPU upgrades matter to you.
