I'm planning to build my first gaming PC this weekend and will use a Radeon 9070 XT. The system will also handle general work and programming. I originally intended to buy a 9800X3D bundle, but its current price has risen to around $900. The alternative is a 270K bundle for about $600. I'm upgrading from a roughly 10-year-old computer and moving from 1080p to 1440p, so I'm wondering whether the extra $300 for the 9800X3D is worthwhile. I'd appreciate advice on gaming performance, productivity, upgrade paths, and whether the money might be better spent on a monitor or other parts.

The 270K is a strong value if you also care about programming and other multi-core work. It has more cores and can finish tasks such as compiling faster, while the 9800X3D generally delivers higher gaming FPS and better 1% lows. For a mixed-use build, the cheaper bundle is reasonable unless gaming performance is your absolute priority.
If your programming work is fairly light, an eight-core X3D chip would be more than enough and gives you the best gaming experience. A non-X3D Ryzen option could also be worth checking out because it would offer a newer upgradeable platform without paying the full 9800X3D premium. Also confirm exactly what memory is included in each bundle—the 270K package comes with 32GB, which affects the value comparison.
For normal 1440p and 4K gaming, the 270K generally won’t bottleneck a 9070 XT unless you play very CPU-heavy or high-refresh games. The 9800X3D is better, particularly for smooth frame times, but it doesn’t seem worth an extra $300 to me based on your use case.
At 1440p, the 270K should pair well with the 9070 XT, especially if you aren’t targeting extremely high refresh rates in competitive games. The 9800X3D is faster for gaming, but the difference is more noticeable at 1080p and high frame rates. Putting the $300 toward a better 1440p monitor could make the bigger practical difference.

The platform having limited future upgrades matters less if you plan to keep this system for several years. In that case, the savings are probably more useful than having a newer upgrade path.
