I'm considering purchasing an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X for my new PC build, but I'm unsure if it's still a good investment in 2025. What do you think?

The most important factor here is what you'll actually be doing with it. The 5000 series makes the 3950X feel obsolete due to the performance improvements. If you're not gaming, it might change things, but overall, newer options exist that might serve you better.

Exactly! And if you're just gaming, you might be losing a lot of performance with that older model.

Absolutely not! Unless it's practically free, there's no reason to get it. For gaming, look for the X3D models, and if you need heavy-duty performance, definitely go for the 5900XT or 5950X instead. They'll give you much better value.

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it. The Ryzen 5 9500X or 5900XT are much better options if you need 16 cores for an AM4 build. Plus, if your budget allows, going for an AM5 setup would be a smarter move.

I completely agree! The newer chips have way better performance and longevity.

Not unless you can snag it for really cheap. Otherwise, you're better off with newer models.

Sure, if it's for light desktop use, the 3950X can still hold up. But if you're not in need of that much power, consider something like the 5600, which is a much better gaming CPU than the 3950X.

Also, what's your budget? I've got one lying around since I upgraded to a 5800X3D.
