Is the i5 14600k a Good Upgrade Over the i7 11700k for Gaming?

I'm considering upgrading my CPU, and I'm curious if the i5 14600k is a significant improvement over the i7 11700k for gaming performance. I was initially looking into Ryzen, but with recent RAM price hikes and the need for DDR5 with the AM5 socket, I'm hesitant. I noticed that the i5 14600k offers good value and could be more future-proof since I'm stuck with a dead socket either way. My current GPU is a 5070ti, and I game on a Full HD monitor, though I'm debating if I should upgrade my monitor as well. Any thoughts on whether the 14600k is worth the investment?

Have you checked the pricing for the i7-14700F? It’s usually just a bit more expensive and provides a notable performance boost. However, if the price difference is too steep, the 14600k is still a great choice.

I looked into it, but the 14700F is about 50% pricier here, and the 14700k is almost double the cost of the 14600k! Plus, the performance gain isn’t that huge, just about 5-7% better.

The i5 14600k is definitely a solid upgrade! It offers higher single-core clock speeds and more cores compared to the i7 11700k, which should translate to better gaming performance. However, if you're planning a full rebuild, you might want to consider AMD as well.

Honestly, I’d recommend sticking with your current setup unless you really feel the need to upgrade. The 13th/14th generation CPUs can be a real money sink.

I’m using the 14600k with DDR4 RAM, and honestly, there's no need to spend extra on DDR5 unless you already have it. The 14600k has a performance similar to a 12900k in terms of IPC. Just remember to update your BIOS before installing it. For 1080p gaming, you might find that your current setup is already overkill, and even a 5070 or 4070 GPU could be excessive for Full HD.
