I'm choosing a processor for both gaming and work such as 3D modeling and rendering. Is the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K a poor choice at its current price, or does it still make sense compared with newer alternatives?

The Core Ultra 7 265K isn’t automatically a bad CPU, but its value depends heavily on local pricing. The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus are generally more attractive options if they cost only a little more or offer better performance for the money.
At roughly $305, the 265K can be reasonable for a mixed gaming and productivity build, especially if the 270K Plus is priced close to higher-end Ryzen 9 options such as the 9900X or 7900X3D. Compare actual gaming, rendering, power, and platform costs before deciding rather than ruling it out completely.

In my area, the 270K Plus costs about $440, while the 265K is around $305, so the price gap is pretty significant.
