Is the Next-Gen SQL Managed Instance Ready for Production?

Hey everyone! I've noticed that the 'Preview' label has disappeared from the toggle for enabling Next-Gen on our SQL Managed Instances. However, I can't find any official statements confirming that it's officially out of preview and good for production use. Has anyone else seen this change or have more information about it?

I can't stress enough how much I've been hoping for this! None of our clients want to go live with something that still says 'preview,' even if it's stable. My tests showed a performance increase of about 30-40% with Next-Gen, plus the option to buy more IOPS without enlarging the database file. It seems like it could match the performance of the Business Critical tier for a better price. Fingers crossed this finally gets officially launched!

Keep an eye out during the MS Ignite event happening from November 18-21. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce something then!

I think it’s a good time to switch to Next-Gen if you have a general purpose instance! The storage performance is leaps and bounds better than what we’ve had before—think of it like switching from an old USB1 spinning disk to a modern SSD. If you're not on board yet, you should consider moving fast!

Will there be an in-place upgrade option available? That would really help with the transition.

I tested it out, and just enabling Next-Gen gave me performance boosts of 30-40%. It's impressive!
