Is the Palit GeForce RTX 5080 Infinity 3 16GB a good buy for $2,000 AUD?

I'm putting together a new PC and was originally considering an ASUS Prime RTX 5070 Ti for around $1,700 AUD. I've now found a Palit GeForce RTX 5080 Infinity 3 16GB for about $2,000 AUD, and I'm willing to pay the difference because this should be my long-term build. I haven't used Palit before, though, and this model is noticeably cheaper than other RTX 5080 cards. Is Palit a reliable brand, and are there any major drawbacks to the Infinity 3, or is it simply a good-value 5080? I'm also interested in local AI workloads, so NVIDIA's CUDA and software support matter to me.

For local AI, sticking with NVIDIA is understandable because CUDA support is more mature and tends to involve less experimentation than running many workloads on an RX 9070 XT. At around $2,000 AUD, the Palit 5080 seems fair if those features matter to you. Just compare its warranty, cooler reviews, dimensions, and noise levels with the other 5080 models before buying.

Someone who bought this exact card said it runs cool and has been a substantial upgrade from a launch RTX 3060 Ti. The cheaper price appears to mostly mean fewer extras such as RGB and more limited overclocking options. Performance should still be very close to other RTX 5080 models, so it looks like a reasonable buy if the warranty and retailer support are good.

That’s reassuring. I’m not concerned about RGB or getting the absolute highest factory overclock, so reliable cooling and warranty support are the main things I’ll check.

Before committing, it’s worth comparing the alternatives. The Radeon RX 9070 XT is generally much cheaper while offering performance close to the RTX 5070 Ti, and it can be the better value for ordinary gaming. The RTX 5080 makes more sense if you specifically want NVIDIA features, CUDA compatibility, ray tracing, or local AI support. Compared with a 5070 Ti, the 5080’s extra performance may not justify the full price difference for gaming alone.

Palit is a legitimate GPU manufacturer, not some unknown rebadging operation. I’ve used one of their cards without problems, and the main differences compared with more expensive models are usually the cooler design, factory overclock, lighting, and extra features rather than the GPU itself.
