Is the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB a good upgrade from an RTX 2060 Super?

I'm currently using a ROG Strix B550-F Gaming motherboard with a Ryzen 7 3700X, an RTX 2060 Super, and 32GB of DDR4 memory. This is my first PC upgrade in roughly six years, so I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by current prices and choices. I'd like to make a sensible, relatively future-proof upgrade and have been considering the Radeon RX 9060 XT, especially the 16GB model. Would it be a good match for my system, and should I also plan to replace my CPU?

The RX 9060 XT 16GB is still a great choice if the higher-tier cards are substantially more expensive where you live. Pricing matters a lot here: the 9070 series is worth considering only if it fits your budget. Whichever GPU you choose, a future move to a Ryzen 5000-series CPU would help keep the system balanced.

Also compare the RX 9070 or 9070 GRE before buying. They can offer roughly 30โ€“50% more performance, depending on the model, while sometimes costing only 20โ€“30% more. If the price difference is small in your area, one of those cards may provide better long-term value.

The RX 9060 XT 16GB would be a strong upgrade, particularly if you can find it around $500. The extra VRAM should help with newer games, and it can handle 1440p well. Your Ryzen 7 3700X can be upgraded later, with something like a Ryzen 7 5700X making a good follow-up upgrade.

MellowCactus47: Iโ€™m planning to upgrade the CPU within the next year or two, so starting with the graphics card sounds reasonable.

The 16GB version of the RX 9060 XT is the one Iโ€™d choose. Your motherboard supports newer AM4 processors, so a Ryzen 5 5600X or a Ryzen 7 5700X/5800X could be a relatively affordable future upgrade. You may need to update the motherboard BIOS first.

MellowCactus47: What kind of real-world improvement would I notice by moving from my current Ryzen 7 3700X to one of those newer CPUs?
