I'm planning to replace my RTX 3080, which has served me well for about five and a half years. Newer games, especially Wardogs, are becoming harder to run at high frame rates without lowering settings or relying on DLSS. My goal is roughly 160 FPS at 1440p, preferably at native resolution, with improved graphics quality and fewer stutters.
I'm considering the RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, and possibly the RTX 5080, although the 5080 may be too expensive. I'm also looking at the RX 9070 XT because it appears to offer performance close to the 5070 Ti for less money in some markets. I'll be pairing the new GPU with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. I understand the CPU could become a limitation in some games, but upgrading it later would be considerably cheaper than replacing the GPU again.
For people using a similar setup, is the extra cost of the RTX 5070 Ti worthwhile over the regular RTX 5070 for high-refresh 1440p gaming? Does its additional performance and 16GB of VRAM make it better suited to playing without upscaling? I'm also interested in how the RX 9070 XT compares for native-resolution rasterized gaming, ray tracing, software features, and overall value.

I’m running a Ryzen 7 5800X3D with an RTX 5070 Ti at 1440p and it’s a very balanced combination. The 5800X3D still holds up well, while the 5070 Ti provides enough performance that I don’t need to depend on DLSS as much. Coming from an RTX 3080, I’d skip the regular 5070 and choose the Ti if you want a clearly worthwhile upgrade, especially because of the 16GB of VRAM. The RTX 5080 is only worth considering if the extra cost is comfortable.
A large multi-game comparison found the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT within a few percent of each other overall, with results varying by game. The 9070 XT generally offers stronger raster performance and more VRAM, while the 5070 Ti can be preferable for ray tracing and Nvidia’s feature set. If they cost about the same, choose based on which features matter more; if the 9070 XT is meaningfully cheaper, it’s likely the better gaming value.
