I can buy a PNY OC RTX 5070 locally for $600, or an MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Super 12GB Gaming X Slim for $550. Is the newer 5070 worth the extra $50, or would that money be better spent on a higher-quality power supply or better peripherals? I care more about power efficiency, heat, and longevity than maximum performance. Most of my gaming is at 1080p with competitive settings in games like Fortnite, CS2, Valorant, and Rainbow Six Siege, so I expect to be CPU-limited at 280Hz. I currently have an RTX 3070 Ti that runs very hot and is beginning to develop issues, but I do not want to replace it with something slower.

The 5070 is the better value at these prices. It has stronger performance, newer features, and some overclocking headroom. Features such as improved upscaling and frame-generation support may also help with demanding future games, although frame generation is less useful for competitive titles where latency and image clarity matter.
At only a $50 difference, I’d lean toward the RTX 5070. It is newer, generally faster, offers newer features, and should have more useful support going forward. You probably won’t regret spending the extra $50, especially if you plan to keep the card for several years.
If your priority is heat and efficiency, compare real power-draw and temperature reviews for the exact models rather than assuming the newer generation is automatically cooler. Also make sure the power supply is reliable and adequately sized. Since the 4070 Super is only $50 cheaper, I would choose the 5070 unless the MSI model has a significantly better cooler, warranty, or return policy.
Both cards are arguably overkill for 1080p competitive gaming. If the 3070 Ti is otherwise stable, replacing it may not improve performance much; fixing airflow, cleaning the cooler, or checking its thermal paste could be worth trying first.
For your actual games and settings, both cards are probably more than enough at 1080p. Your CPU, rather than the GPU, is likely to be the limiting factor at 280Hz. The 5070 may still be the better purchase because the price gap is small, but do not expect a major difference in Fortnite, CS2, Valorant, or Siege unless you raise the graphics settings or use heavy ray tracing.
