Is the RX 9070 XT a worthwhile upgrade from an RTX 3070 for 1440p gaming?

I currently have an Intel i7-12700, an RTX 3070, and 32 GB of RAM. I'm planning to move from 1080p to 1440p and like playing a lot of AAA games, often with settings pushed to the maximum, along with some competitive titles. Would upgrading to an RX 9070 XT be a good choice for this setup, or would my current hardware be enough?

For gaming, the 9070 XT makes a lot of sense if its price is reasonable. The main reasons to stay with NVIDIA would be needing CUDA for productivity software or strongly preferring DLSS. Otherwise, current FSR versions are capable enough for many games.

Your processor should be fine in most games. At 1080p competitive settings, the CPU can matter more and some titles may show a larger gap, but at 1440p with demanding graphics, the 9070 XT should be a substantial improvement.

Yes, the RX 9070 XT is a strong 1440p card and would be a noticeable upgrade over the RTX 3070, especially for newer AAA games at high or ultra settings. Your i7-12700 should pair well with it, and you donโt need to replace the CPU immediately.

The RTX 3070 can handle 1440p, but it wonโt consistently max out newer games because of its lower VRAM and performance compared with newer cards. The 9070 XT gives you much more headroom for high refresh rates and demanding settings.
