I'm upgrading my gaming PC and originally planned to buy an RX 9060 XT, but I found an RX 9070 GRE at a much lower price than expected. Since I'm staying with my AM4 motherboard and mainly play at 1080p, I'm trying to choose a CPU that won't hold the graphics card back too badly. The Ryzen 5 5500X3D is affordable, but some online comparisons suggest it could bottleneck the 9070 GRE at 1080p. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D costs about twice as much, so I'm looking for a more budget-friendly option that will pair well with the GPU now and remain suitable when I eventually move to a 1440p monitor.

If the 5500X3D is the affordable option, I’d get it rather than stretching for a 5800X3D that costs twice as much. It should work very well with the 9070 GRE, and moving to 1440p later will generally shift more of the workload toward the GPU anyway.
The 5500X3D is about the minimum AM4 chip I’d consider for a graphics card this fast at 1080p, but it’s still a sensible choice. Any X3D processor would be suitable; choosing the cheapest one gives you much better value than paying a large premium for a 5800X3D.
There’s no universal CPU/GPU combination that avoids a bottleneck in every game. At 1080p, a powerful graphics card can expose CPU limits more often, particularly if you’re targeting very high refresh rates, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have a bad experience. The 5500X3D’s extra cache makes it a strong AM4 gaming chip and should be a solid pairing for this build.
Exactly. Saying a CPU will bottleneck at 1080p can make it sound like the system will have problems, when it usually just means the GPU may not reach maximum utilization in some games or settings.
