I'm choosing between a Ryzen 5 7600X3D and a Core i5-14600KF. The processors cost about the same, but choosing the Intel system would let me use DDR4 and save roughly $200 on memory and possibly the motherboard. I care less about which chip wins in individual games and more about overall value. Is the 7600X3D's gaming performance, lower power consumption, and AM5 upgrade path worth paying that extra $200, or would the 14600KF be the smarter budget choice?

If the Intel build is genuinely $200 cheaper, the 14600KF is a strong value, especially if you plan to keep the system for many years and replace the whole platform later. Its platform is effectively finished, but that only matters if you expect to upgrade the CPU in the next few years.
The value of the 7600X3D depends heavily on your games and graphics card. With a powerful GPU and a high-refresh monitor, its extra cache can provide a substantial gaming advantage, while the 14600KF running DDR4 may give up some performance. With a more modest GPU, the cheaper Intel system will likely feel nearly as good.
AM5 is the better choice if you like making incremental upgrades. The platform is expected to receive new processors through at least 2029, so you could replace the CPU later without rebuilding everything. If you usually run a PC until it is obsolete and then start over, that advantage is much less important.
