Is the WD SN850X Worth the Extra Cost Over the SN7100?

I'm trying to decide between the WD SN7100 and the WD SN850X, both being 4TB options. The SN7100 is priced at $555 while the SN850X costs $590. For me, durability is the most crucial factor. I'm curious whether the extra $35 for the SN850X is justified, especially regarding the importance of DRAM in these drives. Would I actually notice a difference in everyday use?

The SN7100 is actually a great choice! The performance is pretty similar to the SN850X in most scenarios. DRAM is only crucial for intense workstation tasks. For regular use, you won't notice much of a difference.

I totally get it, paying $550 already feels like a lot. But consider that the difference is minimal in practical terms. Unless you're using heavy workloads, the SN7100 should serve you just fine. It's a good option if you're on a tight budget!

Honestly, I would spend that extra $35 and go for the SN850X. Even though you might not see a noticeable difference in regular use, it's a solid investment for better durability and performance in the long run.
