Is there any chance of recovering data from dead hard drives?

I made a huge mistake by using a modular SATA cable from MSI in a Thermaltake power supply without checking the pinouts, and now I've got four completely dead drives. I'm wondering if I could potentially replace the PCBs with ones from used drives of the same model and access my data. Or is there no hope at all?

There's definitely a good chance! As long as the disks themselves weren't physically damaged, the data should still be intact since it's all stored on the disks. Best of luck!

Thanks, I sure hope so!

I've had success swapping boards on HDDs before. You could get lucky and manage to recover your data. Just keep in mind that you may have to transfer the BIOS chip from your old board to the new one; it's not too complicated, but it requires a bit of care.

Thanks. I read you need to move the BIOS chip from the old board to the new one; is that terribly difficult?
