Is this £1,599 Costco gaming PC worth buying, or should I build one myself?

Costco is offering a CyberPower gaming desktop with a Ryzen 7 processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an RX 9070 XT for £1,599. I've also put together a similar parts list, but I'm new to PC building and haven't researched every component in much depth. I've been a console gamer for more than 20 years and am considering switching to PC, so I'd appreciate some advice. Would it be better to buy this prebuilt system, or could I build something comparable for around £1,300–£1,400 by buying parts during sales? There was also an alternative version with a Ryzen 7 9700X and RX 9070, while the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RX 9070 XT model costs about £200 more. Is the more expensive configuration worthwhile?

At £1,599, that prebuilt looks like a very strong deal. The CPU, graphics card, and memory alone would cost roughly £1,400 at normal prices, before adding the storage, case, power supply, motherboard, Windows, and assembly. Even before recent memory price increases, a comparable prebuilt would probably have been around this price.

MellowCedar42: That’s helpful. My parts list comes in just under £1,400 for the CPU, GPU, and RAM, so I’m mainly wondering whether I could realistically save money by buying everything separately during sales. I’m still getting comfortable with the idea of building a PC after years of console gaming.

The Costco system is difficult to beat unless you find unusually good component discounts. Building yourself gives you more control over the motherboard, power supply, cooling, and case, but the saving may be small once all those parts are included. For a first PC, the prebuilt is a reasonable choice as long as the manufacturer lists the exact power supply, motherboard, cooling setup, and warranty details.

NorthElm53: Between the two configurations, I’d lean toward the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with the RX 9070 XT if the extra £200 fits your budget and you want maximum gaming performance. The 9700X and RX 9070 should still be excellent, though, and may offer better value if you play at 1440p rather than aiming for very high refresh rates or heavier future-proofing.
