I was given my father's old PC after he upgraded his system, and I'm new to building and upgrading computers. It has a 24-inch 1080p 60 Hz monitor, an MSI RTX 2060 Super Ventus 2X OC graphics card, an Intel Core i7-3770K, 16 GB of DDR3 memory, a 500 GB Kingston SSD, and an ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard. Is this a decent starter PC, and what should I upgrade first in the future?

Correct. The i7-3770K uses an old socket and DDR3 memory, so a modern processor upgrade would require a new motherboard and DDR4 or DDR5 RAM as well. That makes upgrading this platform usually poor value. Save for a complete platform upgrade later instead of buying another processor for the current motherboard.
Yes, it’s a perfectly usable starter PC for 1080p gaming. The RTX 2060 Super is still capable, and 16 GB of RAM is enough for most games. The main limitation is the very old i7-3770K platform, so newer CPU-heavy games may not run as smoothly. I’d use it as-is before spending money on upgrades.

For now, make sure the system has a fresh operating-system installation if needed, good airflow, and enough storage. The 500 GB SSD may fill quickly, so adding a larger SSD could be the most noticeable practical upgrade.
