Is This Dell 4GB DDR4-2400 RAM Worth Using in a Gaming PC?

I found a Dell-branded 4GB DDR4-2400 memory module being sold at a low price. Could I use it in a normal gaming PC, and is there a reason it costs less than other DDR4 memory? I also want to know whether compatibility, capacity, or speed would make it a poor choice.

For a new build, I would skip it and look for a matched 2x8GB DDR4-3200 kit instead. That gives you 16GB and dual-channel operation, and the faster memory can matter noticeably on platforms such as AM4. Used kits are often only a little more expensive than these low-spec modules.

The listing may not actually be a bargain. Comparable 4GB DDR4-2400 modules are commonly available for similar prices, so paying nearly the same amount for 16GB of slow memory is poor value. Compare the total delivered cost with a used 2x8GB kit before buying.

It may work, but check the exact specifications first. Dell branding alone is not a problem, though the module needs to be standard non-ECC, unbuffered DDR4 (UDIMM). ECC or registered/server memory may not work in a typical consumer motherboard. Also check the seller's return policy in case the listing is inaccurate.

The low price mostly comes from the small capacity and slow speed. A single 4GB stick is far below what you want for a modern gaming PC, and DDR4-2400 is close to the bottom of the normal speed range. You would likely need multiple modules to reach a reasonable amount of memory, assuming your motherboard has enough slots.
