Is This PC Worth Upgrading for Content Creation?

I built this PC in 2021 and have not made any major upgrades. Lately, applications—especially Adobe Premiere Pro—sometimes freeze or become unresponsive, and I'm getting more serious about content creation. I mainly use Photoshop, Premiere Pro, ZBrush, and Blender, with a budget of around $2,000. My current system has a Ryzen 7 2700X, Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240L RGB cooler, ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING motherboard, EVGA GTX 1650 SUPER, 32 GB of Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3000 memory, a 512 GB XPG Spectrix NVMe SSD, 1 TB Toshiba hard drive, EVGA 550W power supply, and a Cooler Master MasterBox MB511 case. Should I upgrade this system or replace most of it? I'd especially appreciate advice about likely bottlenecks, motherboard compatibility, PCIe limitations, and which upgrades would provide the biggest improvement.

You can spend the full budget on a new build, but you probably don’t have to. A compatible Ryzen 5000-series CPU, a substantially faster GPU, and additional fast SSD storage would likely transform the system. PCIe generations are backward compatible, so a newer graphics card will work in a PCIe 3.0 slot; you may lose a small amount of performance in some situations, but it generally isn’t a serious compatibility issue.

A fifth-generation Ryzen processor and a newer graphics card would make the biggest difference, and you should be able to stay well below your $2,000 budget. The existing case, cooler, memory, and storage could potentially be reused, although you may need a BIOS update before installing a newer CPU.

The Ryzen 7 2700X is the main part that feels dated, so upgrading the processor is a good first step. The GTX 1650 Super is also a major limitation for Blender and GPU-accelerated creative work. The rest of the system is usable, but consider replacing the power supply if you install a much faster graphics card, since 550W may not provide enough headroom.
