Is This Ryzen 5 5600X Build Good for 1080p and 1440p Gaming?

I'm putting together a budget gaming PC and chose a DDR4 platform because it's considerably cheaper. The proposed parts are a Ryzen 5 5600X, Cooler Master Hyper 212 V3, MSI PRO B550M-P motherboard, 16GB of ADATA XPG Spectrix DDR4, an ASUS Prime RX 9060 XT 16GB, a WD SN3000 1TB Gen4 NVMe SSD, a Cooler Master 650W power supply, and a Thermaltake View 380 TG White case.
My main goal is smooth gaming at 1080p and 1440p, especially with current and upcoming AAA games such as GTA 6. Is this configuration balanced and compatible, or should I change anything before buying? I'm working with a fairly limited budget, so I'd prefer improvements that offer good value rather than simply choosing the most expensive parts.

The main drawback is the AM4 platform. Itโs still perfectly usable for a budget build, but future CPU upgrades are limited and a later platform change would require a new motherboard and DDR5 memory. If you can stretch the budget by roughly $150, a B650 board with a Ryzen 5 7500F and 16GB of DDR5 would give you a better upgrade path. Otherwise, keeping AM4 is reasonable if the savings matter more right now.

Check the RAM speed and make sure the exact kit is supported by the motherboard. Iโd also reconsider the cooler and power supply: a Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit may offer better value than the Hyper 212, while a higher-quality 750Wโ850W unit from a well-reviewed series would leave more room for a future graphics card upgrade. Check an independent PSU tier list before purchasing.

The graphics card is a reasonable choice for budget 1080p gaming and should manage 1440p with adjusted settings and upscaling. If you want consistently high settings in future AAA games, the GPU and eventually the 16GB of RAM will be the first areas to upgrade. GTA 6 is also expected to arrive on PC later than the console release, so its final PC requirements are not known yet.

For 1080p, this should be a solid setup. At 1440p, expect to use medium or high settings and possibly FSR to maintain around 60 FPS in demanding games. It should handle AAA titles, but you may need to tune settings rather than running everything at ultra.
