I'm new to buying used PCs and found this system listed for $500 USD. It has a Ryzen 5 3500, 32GB of 2600MHz RAM, a GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition, and a 1TB SSD. Is that a reasonable price, or would buying used at this age be too risky?

Around $400 would be more understandable, but $500 is too high unless it includes unusually good supporting parts and a quality power supply. Make sure the seller lets you run a game or benchmark before buying.
I’d pass at $500. This is closer to a reasonable deal around $300, maybe somewhat more if the system is in excellent condition and you can test everything first. For $500, you should be able to find a newer build with better overall parts. If you’re considering it, check the temperatures, storage health, power supply model, and whether the graphics card has been heavily used.
No, not at that price. The GTX 1080 Ti is still capable, but the Ryzen 5 3500 is dated, the memory is slow, and the other components may be older or low-end. If you’re patient or willing to shop for parts separately, you can put together something better for the same money.
As a rough comparison, I found another possible system for $800 with a Ryzen 5 5600, RTX 3060, 512GB SSD, and 16GB of RAM. Is that a better deal?
That $800 system is newer, but it still doesn’t sound like a great value without knowing the power supply, motherboard, case, and exact SSD. A Ryzen 5 5600 and RTX 3060 are a better-balanced combination, but I’d compare it with new or refurbished options before paying $800.
