Is Undervolting the Ryzen 7 9850X3D a Good Idea?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 9850X3D from my old Ryzen 7 5700X. My setup includes a ROG STRIX X870E-E motherboard and a 360mm AIO cooler. I've noticed this new CPU runs quite a bit hotter, idling around 55-60°C and hitting temps of 80-90°C during gaming, which feels excessive compared to my old one that idled at 35°C and went up to 50-55°C at most. I've read mixed advice about undervolting with Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) to help manage temperatures. I've already undervolted it by -15V and tested for stability with OCCT for an hour, and I didn't see any errors. However, Afterburner freezes whenever I try to make any changes or check settings. Could this be a sign of instability, or is something else causing the freezes? I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether I should continue with undervolting or just stick with the factory settings.

I totally get where you're coming from! I’ve undervolted my 9850X3D as well, and it helped lower the temps significantly. Just make sure you're closing OCCT when you run Afterburner. Sometimes having multiple programs trying to access the same sensors can create issues, which might be why it freezes for you. If you want, I can share the values I used for stability tests too!

What programs did you use to test the processor's stability? How was your undervolting process?
