I'm considering upgrading to a 4K OLED monitor, especially one of Samsung's 4K 240Hz models, because of the current discounts. My system has a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, an RTX 5080, and 64GB of RAM. I mostly play Battlefield 6 and Cyberpunk 2077, and my current 1440p setup has been excellent—I'm getting around 230–240 FPS in Battlefield 6 with 2x frame generation enabled.
Would moving to 4K make my system feel outdated sooner as newer, more demanding games release? With a 4K 240Hz display, would I need 4x frame generation to maintain high frame rates, or can the 5080 make good use of the monitor without relying that heavily on frame generation? I'm also wondering whether the image-quality improvement and OLED benefits are worth giving up the easy performance I currently get at 1440p.

I’d compare the warranty and burn-in coverage carefully before choosing a model. OLED durability varies by usage and panel, and some owners have had to replace displays after a few years. If you’re happy with your current monitor, another option is keeping it for high-FPS gaming and adding a large OLED TV for cinematic games and movies.
A good mini-LED or fast IPS display would avoid OLED burn-in concerns, though it won’t match OLED’s perfect blacks and pixel response.
OLED is a big visual upgrade, but remember that 4K displays can still run games at 1440p if you want more performance. As a general rule, 1440p looks particularly sharp at 27 inches, while 32-inch monitors benefit much more from 4K. That flexibility makes the upgrade less risky.
The main question is whether you actually want better image quality or prefer the high frame rates you already have. OLED has excellent contrast and motion clarity, but it can involve pixel-refresh routines and requires some burn-in precautions. Some people also find certain OLEDs oversaturated or uncomfortable until they adjust the display settings.
With an RTX 5080, 4K is a very reasonable upgrade. Less demanding and competitive games should still run at 200 FPS or more, while DLSS and frame generation can help in heavier titles. A 4K 240Hz OLED gives you both excellent clarity and fast motion, although you shouldn’t expect every demanding game to reach 240 native frames at maximum settings—even a 5090 won’t do that consistently.
