Is Upgrading from a 3060 to a 5060 Ti a Good Move?

Hey everyone! I've recently upgraded my PC with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and a new Thermalright CPU cooler. However, I've noticed that my 3060 is starting to show its age in some games. It's a 12GB model, but with the new CPU, I'm eager to get more performance out of my system.

I found an open box 5060 Ti OC 16GB at Microcenter, which I've put on reserve for $470. I've done a bit of research, but I'm curious if you guys think this is a solid upgrade. Am I going to see a substantial bump in performance that makes it worth it? I mostly game at 1080p but occasionally use a 1440p monitor. I'm also considering upgrading my PSU just to be safe.

What PSU are you planning to use? I recommend the Rosewill VMG850 – it's a solid choice at around $75, great for future upgrades too. While I think the 5060 Ti is decent, I'd lean towards a 9060 XT, 9070, or 9070 XT if you can wait for better deals.

I'm looking for something at least 750W gold-rated since I'm using a Ryzen 7 and potentially the 5060 Ti. I’m currently running on a 500W with my 3060, so I need to upgrade.

I appreciate the suggestions! I've been using my current GPU for three years, but I'm seeing some growth in prices. I want to upgrade but don't want to overspend.

The performance gain from a 5070 is substantial. Plus, Nvidia's DLSS is way better supported than AMD's FSR, making them more future-proof. I think $470 for a 16GB 5060 Ti is a decent deal, but if your budget allows it, splurging a bit for the 5070 would be worth it.

I appreciate the input! Pricing really starts to climb for the 70s. I think going for the Ti sounds like a good move based on what I’m hearing.

Honestly, I think the $470 for a 5060 Ti is still overpriced, considering it’s more expensive than some better alternatives like the 9060 XT. Just something to think about before making the purchase.

I get that, but I was tempted by the open box deal since it was $100 less than retail.

Yeah, upgrading to the 5060 Ti 16GB will definitely give you a noticeable performance boost in almost every game. In fact, with your CPU, you could even handle a 5070 Ti if you wanted to! Enjoy the upgrade!

That's great to hear! I was eyeing some 5070s too, but they're a bit out of my price range right now. Thanks for the reassurance!

What do you think about the 5700X? I've noticed it's much more expensive than the 5700X3D and I can't fit that in my budget.

I made a similar jump from a 3060 Ti to a 5070, and it was fantastic! I noticed a significant boost across the board in performance.

That sounds promising! Your experience definitely helps me feel more confident in my decision.
