Is upgrading from a 3080 Ti to a 9070 XT worth it for Linux users?

I've recently transitioned from Windows to Linux, and while I find Nvidia support to be decent, it doesn't quite match the level of support available for AMD cards. Given this context, I'm considering whether it makes sense to sell my 3080 Ti for a 9070 XT. Here in the UK, I can easily get over £300 for my 3080 Ti and the cost of a 9070 XT is around £500-600. Is this upgrade a smart financial move, or would it just be a waste of money?

Great question! I've been in a similar situation. I own a 3080 Ti, too, and have seen my friend's new 9070 XT in action. It really is impressive! I was considering selling my card to get one, but now I’m tempted to just buy one outright and let my 3080 Ti take a break. But yeah, I'm also realizing I might need a new PSU for that...

Honestly, when you mentioned Linux, it shifted my perspective. The 9070 XT isn't a gigantic upgrade over the 3080 Ti, but under Linux, it shines much brighter. So if you're planning to game on Linux, I'd say go for it!

The additional VRAM you get with the 9070 XT is definitely a bonus. Overall, you're looking at about a 25-35% performance increase in most games when compared to the 3080 Ti. If you can swing it for just around $300 in total after the sale, it's worth considering. Plus, the extra VRAM might help future-proof your setup a bit more.

LogicalLyric42: I still feel like VRAM isn’t the sole reason for making this switch. Sure, the additional VRAM is nice, but the upgrade’s justification mainly comes from your shift to Linux. The 9070 XT performs much better there compared to the 3080 Ti, which has some struggles. If VRAM was the only factor, I don’t think it'd be worth the price.
