Is Upgrading from a 3800X to a 5800XT Worth It for Gaming?

I'm considering upgrading my son's current setup from a Ryzen 3800X and a 3070 FE to a 5800XT for his birthday. He primarily plays games at 1440p and is also in a coding/game design program at school. I'm curious if this upgrade for $140 is a solid choice and if it would benefit him in his studies as well. Any thoughts?

You might want to consider the 5700X, which is more affordable and offers similar performance to the 5800XT. That said, the 5700X3D is a solid upgrade if you can find it. Either way, they'll see a nice improvement over the current setup when gaming.

Just to give you a rough idea, the 5800XT offers about a 20% increase in CPU performance. If that translates well for your son's gaming and coding tasks, it could be a great upgrade overall!

Upgrading to the 5800XT is definitely a noticeable performance boost, but it might be worth looking at the 5700X3D instead if you can find it under $200. It's a great choice as well and could potentially give you even better results without breaking the bank.
